Trace the border
from the Naas/Sams Creek watershed to mounts Kelly and Scabby, starting and
finishing from the Naas car park. Map: Yaouk 1:25,000 Leader:
Rob H. Transport: 160 km return, $15–$20 per person.
Legoland
is a jumble of huge granite boulders above Orroral Valley, at 1300m so cooler
than Canberra. There are tunnels, balconies looking across to Namadgi peaks and
the Cathedral Cave. We will also explore other outcrops along the ridge. Cars
will be driven to the top of the ridge so there will not be much climbing. Map:
Corin Dam 1:25,000. Leader: Jeff B. Transport: ~110 km,
$41 per car, $10–$15 per person.
Circular
15 km walk up from Orroral Valley (Nursery Swamp car park), across to and down
Rendezvous Creek. Climb saddle between spot heights 1351 and 1337 to southern
end of Nursery Swamp. Follow Nursery Creek upstream to complete walk. During
the walk we will try to locate several sites of significance. 500m total climb.

Day 1: Drive to
Merrica River entrance to Nadgee Nature Reserve; park near Ranger Station.
Catch pre-arranged transport to Mallacoota, about a 1 hour 20 minute drive, and
then a boat across Mallacoota Inlet. Half day walk along fire trails, tracks,
beach and sand dunes to camp at Lake Barracoota, a serene freshwater lake. Day
2: A longish slog along the beach, then over magnificent sand dunes and across
the border into NSW. Camp at or near the Bunyip Hole. Day 3: track through
coastal heath, beach walking past Nadgee Lake, more track to camp at either
Little River or Newton’s beach, depending on water availability. Day 4: walk
out. Need to carry water for lunch and some emergency water each day. I have
booked with the NPWS for a party of 8. Maps: Mallacoota 1:50,000;
Nadgee 1:25,000; Narrabarba 1:25,000. Leader: Linda G. Transport:
Costs estimate of $116 per person, comprising: park booking $15 per person,
chauffered transport Merrica River to Mallacoota $25 per person (cost to be
confirmed); boat across Mallacooota inlet $20 per person; petrol costs $56 per
person if four in a car.
This meandering trip
around the northern end of Ettrema extends into some of the lesser travelled
regions of the Ettrema area. Distances travelled each day are generally short
with most of the intended route in Ettrema Creek and nearby creeks. The
proposed route is: Quiera Clearing – Transportation Spur – Ettrema Creek –
Pintannie Saddle – Cabbage Tree Creek – Leyden Creek – Bundundah Creek –
Manning Saddle – Jones Creek – Myall Creek – Quiera Clearing. The actual route
will depend on the weather and also on party inclinations. Maps: Nerriga,
Touga, Caoura, Sassafras, Yalwal and Burrier 1:25,000 Leaders: Keith

Day 1: Short car
swap. Drop into the Kowmung from the west down a steep ridge near the junction
with Tuglow Hole Creek, then downstream past Morong Falls. Day 2: Through
Morong Deep. Day 3: continue downstream then exit via a long ridge and around 7
km of fire trail. Compulsory swims, some with jumps, lots of rock scrambling, a
nicely acrobatic trip. Maps: Shooters Hill 1:25,000. Gurnang
1:25,000. Leader: Linda G. Transport: est $152 per car.
Rockford Bridge –
Bargo River and Gorge – Nepean River – return along cliff top route. River
crossings, rock platforms, lunch and swim at a deep cool pool. Map: Picton
1:25,000. Leader: Brian S. Transport: ~$120 per car, $30–$40
per person.

Climb the Castle
from Yadboro Camp Ground (Grid Reference 447877) for great views to Byangee and
Pigeon House – be sure to bring your camera. You will need to carry plenty of
water as there may be none after crossing the Yadboro River. The walk will
start early Saturday morning to avoid the heat during the climb. You may like
to get there the night before and stay at the camp ground. Map: Corang
1:25,000. Leader: Peter J. Transport: ~180 k each way with a
considerable section of dirt road, ~$140 per car. Limit: 6
Descend Coal Ck to
Bundanoon Ck thence up Tallowa Gully. Return via ascent through cliff line to
Nyes Ck (pack-hauling, some minor rock scrambling) and back up Bundanoon Ck,
or, retrace our steps along Bundanoon Ck. Exit via Fairy Bower Falls track, or
perhaps investigate a route up an unnamed creek to Mount Carnarvon. Options
dependent on weather and party inclinations. Wet feet, rock hopping, boulders
to negotiate, possibly cramped campsites, some lovely rainforest. Map: Bundanoon

Go
down Sutton Road about 1½ km from its intersection with Pialligo Rd and Yass Rd
to the Kowen Rd. Go down Kowen Rd until the junction where the road to Molonglo
Gorge goes off to the right. There is a car park on the left. We will walk to
the Blue Tiles recreation area on the Molonglo and back via a ridge with views.
