If you are not familiar with the procedures of the Club, please read the Information for Walkers for details of booking on a walk, gradings, our requirement that all walkers sign an acknowledgement of risks and obligations, search and rescue procedures, equipment hire, etc.
Follow the
Drive via Tarago and Nerriga. This walk
will be scrubby but it is only 7–8km long and mostly flattish. The views along
the clifftops overlooking Ettrema Gorge are fantastic and we will have time for
plenty of stops to savour them and for an optional rekkie of
Day 1 from Sassafras to camp at Folly
Point on track. Day 2 Sluice Box Falls, Mt Elliott Pass to camp at Styles
Creek. Off track, thick scrub in places, approximately 300 decent and 300
climb. Day 3 Explore from
North along Kangaroo Flat, then down to
Mountain Creek and climb Wombat Ridge northern end. After following the ridge
we go back along
Drive to Central Tilba Farm Cabins Friday
evening. Climb Dromedary Sat. Sunday’s walk is a scenic ramble about (10k)
which offers vistas of mountain (Gulaga), lake (Wallaga) and island (Montague),
headland and beach. The track winds around
Boboyan car park– Gudgenby Saddle– SE along Sams Ck Fire Trail– W along Lutons Fire Trail– N along Sams Ck to Sams Ck Fire Trail – car park. About 24 km including 5km off-track or overgrown fire trail and about 700m total climb. Route not fully known to leader. Map: Yaouk 1:25,000. Leader: Mike Br. Meet at 9.30 in the car park opposite
(In conjunction with a Parkway church ramble.) From the Mt Clear Camping Ground car park trot along the W side of Back or Grassy Creek to visit Potters Chimney. Then across the creek onto the Long Flat Fire Trail to try to find an old hut site. The fire trail will take us past a stockyard site and on to Sam Abouds Dunny. From a nearby ford, cross country to Chalkers Chimney. Then NW through the bush to the Naas Valley Fire Trail and John Brayshaws two hut sites. West along the fire trail to the Mt Clear homestead site complex and back to the car. Around 11 km + 200 m climb. Maps: Colinton and Bredbo 1:25,000. Leader: John E. Transport: ~$20. Bradleys Creek runs from the Queanbeyan Escarpment to Googong Reservoir. We’ll approach its middle reaches from the north on a fire trail before following its (dry) bed to the reservoir. From here our return to the cars will be partly off track with some short steep climbs. Map: Hoskinstown 1:25,000. Leader: Terence U. Transport: $20 per car Limit: 8.

From the Orroral Valley carpark cross the creek and climb fairly steeply, about 400 m up the firetrail towards a huge rocky outcrop known as Legoland. Explore the cave underneath and eat lunch dangling legs from the rock’s edge. Continue along this ridge and then we descend to the valley below, this can be slippery and steep , returning to the cars. Map: Corin Dam 1;25,000. Leader: Janet E. Transport: $48 car
A walk in the Brindabella National Park. >From its junction with Doctor’s Flat Road west of Dingo Dell, we will follow the Maginot fire trail until morning tea then head off track through open forest for about ½ hrs to the Hickory Ridge with its spectacular views. We will then drop down to the Mullion Creek valley floor thence back to the cars. The bush near Doctors Flat Road in this area is spectacular. Map: Umburra 1:25,000. From Guthega climb 400m to a semi-sheltered campsite below the summit of Mt Twynam. Enjoy wandering around the Twynam/Sentinel/Watsons Crags area with its superb alpine views and vertiginous slopes. Crampons optional for the adventurous. Bring a 4-season tent or snow caving gear (provided there’s enough snow). Map: Mt Kosciuszko 1:50,000. Leader: John I. Transport: $144 per car plus park entry.
From Tharwa, up the Murrumbidgee past the
De Sallis cemetery in the Gigerline Nature Reserve. Cross the river to
Gigerline Hill. Back through the Murrumbidgee gorge then up Guises Creek into
the Rob Roy Nature Reserve. Rose trig, Mt Rob Roy, Big Monks and down to a
second car in the SE corner of Banks. Around 23 km and 750 m climb. Route not

This presentation covers the use of Garmin and Magellan GPS and associated software in the planning, execution and post-walk stages. From Baldy Range we drop down into the Mountain Creek valley and climb a spur up to Grevillea Ridge. After lunch we follow the ridge North and exit at Top Crossing. Car shuffle will save some road walking. Map: Umburra 1:25,000, Leader: Gösta L. Transport: ~ $30–$40 per car.
From the Yankee Hat car park we walk on trails for 4km through the former pine plantation, then go another 3 km (700 m ascent) through the scrub to the open rocky summit of Mt Gudgenby (1739m) with glorious views of rocky peaks and the Snowy Mountains. Return the same way or via Gudgenby saddle depending on conditions. Overall a fairly hard day because of the climb and regrowth but the pace will be moderate. Map: Yaouk 1:25,000. Leader: Jeff B. This weekend based at the Bundanoon YHA includes two contrasting southern highlands walks. Drive down Friday night. Mt Carrialoo (to be led by Barry K on Saturday) is always brilliant and if you like spectacular views and a bit of a challenge, you will love it. Sunday’s walk is a mixture of ridges with views and a bit along a rain forest creek before we emerge along an ancient logging road back to the cars. About 5 hrs walking and a mixture of track and off track on both days. On Saturday evening, an ‘everybody bring something’ meal. The YHA is an early C20 structure of delightful ambience. Drive to Harrietville and climb 1200 m up Bungalow Spur to Federation Hut, where we will probably be camping for 3–4 days. Climb Mt Feathertop and explore Avalanche Gully (could be breathtaking) and other areas according to individual skills and desires. Crampons optional and MSR-type snowshoes desirable. Return to Harrietville and drive to Mt Beauty before setting off up Victoria’s highest hill, Mt Bogong, via the easy but long Staircase track (1400m). Camp at Cleve Cole Memorial Hut (tents essential) and explore according to whims and weather. Descend via Eskdale Spur. Maps: Mt Feathertop-Hotham and Bogong Alpine Area (or equivalent). An early start for this day walk from Orroral Valley carpark to Coronet Peak via the AAWT. Total distance of 27km mostly on track but there may be some thick regrowth in the off-track sections.
