Saturday 11 April: Lake George escarpment – M/M?/X
This walk is a
rekkie. I have done a bit of exploring and have decided that there is a walk
along the top of the escarpment west of the highway along Lake
George. Not sure how far we will go but will be a full day of
walking mostly through open forest with views over the lake from time to time.
Mix of track and off track. Map: Lake George
1:25,000. Leader: Stan Marks 6254 9568(h), 6274 7350(w), stan.marks@infrastructure.gov.au
Transport: ~$40 per car, estimate $10 per person
10– 14 April (Easter):
Jillaga–Deua circuit – M/R/W/X
About
3 km up a fire trail to Dampier Trig, 3 km along the ridge towards Tabletop,
then down a spur for a further 3 km to upper Jillaga Creek to look for a
camp site. On the second day we’ll descend Jillaga Creek for about 4 km
then cross a ridge, with about a 350 m climb and descent, to Chinamans Cut on
the Deua River. Chinamans Cut is an interesting
spot where miners diverted the river, creating a small waterfall and a good
swimming hole. On the third day we’ll follow the Deua River
down to its junction with Jillaga Creek, then back up lower Jillaga Creek for
about 4 km. On the last day we will go up an unnamed branch of Jillaga Creek,
which has on the map an interesting short steep section which corresponds with
what seems to be on Google Earth a small gorge, then exit by a ridge (probably
the one with spot height 922) and then back to the cars along the Dampier
Mountain Fire Trial. Maps: Badja, Snowball, Nerrigundah, Bendethera 1:
25,000. Leader:
Linda G. Transport: TBA Limit: 8.

up to Mt Herlt, above the 1600 m contour. North down to Rendezvous and so home.
Around 18 km and 1100 m total climb. Physically demanding walking for a fit and
experienced party. Route not fully known to leader. Map: Rendezvous
Creek 1:25,000. Leader: John E. Transport: ~$48 per car, ~$12–$16
