This walk is a
rekke. This walk is best accessed via private property but the farmers are not
co-operative so we have to find another way. We will park in the Jellore State
Forest and from there, cross a tributary of the Nattai to access the fire trail
to the Needle. I am told that the views up the Nattai Gorge are spectacular but
the bit through the creek might be difficult. Climb around 250m. About 4½ hrs
actual walking. Map: Hilltop 1:25,000. Leader: Stan Marks

Transport: ~$100 per car, ~$25–$30 per person.
From the Old Boboyan
Road car park to Boboyan homestead (ruin) and then cross country to Boboyan and
Pheasant Hills. This is an interesting and unburnt dense woodland area with
good canopy and grassy understory in places. We then descend to Grassy Creek
and follow the 4wd track to Bulls Flat for a easy walk back along Old Boboyan
Road. Approximately 1/2 walk off track. Map: Yaouk. 1:25,000. Leader:
Mike Ba. Transport: $60 per car, ~$15– $20 per person. Limit: 5.
See the Budawangs
from a different angle. From the Yadboro River we climb up to the base of the
towering lower Bibbenluke cliffs via a highly scenic and aptly named ridge.
Sleep somewhere along the cliff base overlooking the Yadboro forests. Map: Corang

and your cameras. Map: Monga 1:25,000. Leader: Gösta L. Transport:
~$80 per car, $20–$27 per person.
In
conjunction with the Two Fires Festival to commemorate the poet Judith Wright,
this will be a stroll into a large patch of ancient Eucryphia and tree fern
forest near Milo Road. This walk will complement and happen at the same time as
Gösta’s painting and photographic walk. Maps: Monga,
Araluen 1:25,000. Leader: Chris L. Transport: ~$80 per car.
$20–$27 per person.
We will follow
Moonlight Hollow Rd through open forest from Bulls Head to Bendora Arboretum
(lunch) and return via a disused vehicular track along the ridge which forms
the ACT–NSW border and has some good views. About 5¼ hrs walking. Tell me when
you book if you want to co-lead. Map: Tidbinbilla. Leader: Stan

A chance to visit
two of the highlights of the Budawangs. On Friday afternon/evening drive down
and car camp at the Yadboro River. On Saturday a longish walk up Kaliana Ridge
and along past Shrouded Gods (huge rocks) and into Monolith Valley to the
fabled Green Room—a must for all bushwalkers to see. This is a spectacular
small gorge covered with mosses, ferns, and other greenery. Enjoy Saturday
evening by cooking dinner on a fire (weather permitting). On Sunday morning
walk, up another ridge, through the Cathedral Room to a small rock arch. Need
to be a bit fit as the climb is over 650 m, in places steep and rough on
Saturday &15 km. This w/e would be suitable for those wishing to start
camping. Map: CMW Budawang Leader: Janet E. Transport: $120
each car, $30–$40 per person.

A long
climb, some scrub, spectacular summit. Maps: Rendezvous Creek, Corin
Dam 1:25,000. Leader: Rob H. Transport: ~$40 per car,
~$10–$13 per person.
Ginger
Ale is the informal name assigned (not by me) to the peak next south of Mt
Gingera. At 1760 m it is as high as Mt Ginini and I think equal 7th
in the ACT. It is a long walk of 24 km return (all but 3km on fire trail), and
600 m altitude gain spread throughout the day, from the Ginini locked gate.
Early start, late finish. The pace will be moderate but a reasonable degree of
fitness is required. The views in fine weather should be excellent. Map: Corin
Dam 1:25,000. Leader: Jeff B. Transport: ~160 km return $60
per car, $15–$20 per person. Limit: 12.
Stay in cabins at
Talbingo (Friday and Saturday) and enjoy two contrasting day walks in this
beautiful area of the Snowys. On Saturday a short drive to the walk start
point. We walk from the banks of Blowering Reservoir to Buddong Falls following
part of the Hume Hovell track. Meadows, open woodland and finally a steep
ascent to the impressive Buddong Falls and lunch. A gradual return on a broad
easy track providing more views of the mountains. Twenty kilometres plus 400 m
total ascent all on track but with one long steep section. Sunday a shorter
walk all on track (11 km) to the top of Warogong Sugarloaf. Another climb
of 400 m rewarded by spectacular views. Lunch at the top. Back at the cars
by about 3.00 pm. Talbingo Mountain Retreat has twin room accommodation and
full self catering in dated but clean and smart cabins. Alternatively depending
on numbers we may book cabins at the caravan park. Maps: Saturday -Talbingo,
Yarrongabilly, Courabyra. Sunday: Blowering 1:25,000. Leader: Austin
K. Transport: ~ $165 per car, $55 per person with 3 sharing. Accommodation
~$25 per person per night. Need to have booked by 20 February.
