A
long fire trail bash for Tuesday traipsers to places which just have to
be
visited (once). We begin with a poke about the intersection of the Long
Flat
and Naas Valley fire trails and nearby Back or Grassy Creek and Naas
Creek, to
try to identify several European historical and zoological sites of
significance. Following the Naas Valley fire trail, we visit two hut
sites,
then Demandering Hut and Horse Gully Hut. Turning east onto the Left
Hand Creek
fire trail, we visit a large tabular aplite dyke which crosses the
creek. The
Mt Clear Fire Trail climbs a further 500m to Mt Clear, the 16th highest
named
hill in the ACT. South of Mt Clear near The High Forest we go bush and descend 300 m to Chalkers
Chimney. A direct
route back to the car. Around 27 km and 950 m total climb –
shortened if a hot

2hrs in
the vicinity of Mt Stillwell. On Sunday, we will offer the Blue
Lake-Main
Range-Kosciusko circuit (6 hrs walking all on track) and probably a
walk to Mt
Townsend, Australia’s second highest peak led by Ross
Andrews. On Monday
morning, I will offer a walk of about 1¾ hrs at Sawpit Creek
on the way home.

Trail for another attempt to visit the hidden heights of Tin Min Falls,
a day

get to Bindubi St. We will wander through the cork plantation and past
the

An
afternoon and
evening walk. From Casuarina Sands we follow the Murrumbidgee River
track 4.5km
upstream to a large pool near Bulgar Creek. After a swim we have a
picnic tea
then return to the cars around sunset. The walk will be shortened and
the
swimming time lengthened if the day is very hot. This walk is
unsuitable for
people with ophidiophobia. Map: Cotter

Journey
to the
Mountain that gives its name to our much loved National Park. The first
part of
the walk will be mainly off track up Middle Creek. We will return via
Little
Creamy Flats and then onto the Australian Alps Walking Track through
Cotter Gap
and ending at Orroral. With two days and camping overnight, we will
have time
to explore Mt Namadgi and, to include a visit to Cotter Rocks on the
way back.

Dam Road near where Billy Billy Creek joins in, the Tuesday treaders
will
follow Gibraltar Creek down its course over Gibraltar Falls, past Woods
Reserve
and down to opposite Mushroom Rock. To fill in the day, we’ll
then visit
Mushroom Rock and Gibraltar Peak. Around 7 km + 5 km and 400 m drop +
300 m

Murray’s coach to Sydney Friday night, staying at the Railway
Square Youth
Hostel. An early start Saturday for the walk to South Head from Double
Bay, and
on Sunday for the walk to North Head from Spit Bridge. Opportunities
for a swim
on both days. Camp Saturday night on Cockatoo Island, Sydney
Harbour’s largest
island (between Balmain and Drummoyne), in comfortable hired tents each
twin
share with mattresses, fold-up chairs, gas lights. Cooking on island
bbq-kitchen. Return Canberra on 4 pm Murrays coach arriving back at
7.15 pm

Beg or
borrow a
canoe or kayak and join me in a very popular and classic CBC trip .
Leave
Canberra on Friday evening and camp at the Bendeela camping area
situated just before
the Kangaroo Valley town, then drive onto Tallowa Dam next morning. On
Saturday
we canoe from the Tallowa Dam into the spectacular Shoalhaven Gorge on
flat
water to a sandy beach suitable for our campsite. This trip is suitable
for
people who haven’t paddled before but you need to be able to
swim and feel
confident /comfortable in deep water. Lifejackets will be provided with
the
canoes. Canoes, Canadian 2-man-type, can be hired at Kangaroo Valley on
the
way. The cost is $175 per canoe, i.e. $85 each person for the 2 days.
