With a name like
that it must be worth exploring. Explore the creek plus parts of the upper
Tallowa Gorge and return via Running Creek. May be beautiful canyon country
with pristine rain forest or may be leach infested ditches. Maps: Wingello

Escape the
pre-Christmas madness and enjoy a mainly off-track walk through the attractive
sub-alpine woodlands and plains of the Tinderry Range on the headwaters of the
Queanbeyan and Bredbo Rivers. A short diversion to Coopers Swamp will be
included and there may be some scrubby sections. There will be a short car
shuffle. Maps: Snowball and Whinstone 1:25,000. Leader: Damien

Meet in the car park
at the back of the War Memorial, on the eastern side. We will do a walk in the
Ainslie reserve, including a visit to the disused quarry, thence to the top and

From Blundells Flat
we shall walk to the Coree Creek Crossing and follow Coree Creek to the large
waterfall for lunch. After a short steep climb to the top of falls we shall
head for Pabral Road (firetrail) for the return journey. The first part of the
walk is rough and wet but not deep, with opportunities for a splash in a couple
of small pools. There are a few blackberry bushes to avoid. The second part is
mostly downhill and easy. Map: Cotter Dam 1:25,000. Leader:

Badgery’s Spur to
Long Point – an active day of hill climbs and river walking, mainly on track.
We’ll descend the steep track on Badgery’s Spur to the Shoalhaven and proceed
to Long Point along the river banks with the occasional river crossing. There
will be lots of swimming options along the way and at lunch. We’ll ascend the track
from Long Point, via Kingpin Mtn to the cars. The walk will involve a 600 m
descent and ascent. There’ll be a car shuffle. Map: Caoura 1:25,000.

A relatively easy
walk for Tuesday trudgers to take in a most likely spectacular view. >From near
the ACT–NSW border on Pabral Road, head east through the bush to the top of a
granite slab overlooking Coree Creek. Descend to Coree Creek and snip and
splash down to the weir on Condor Creek. Have a look at Shannons Flat. Around 9
km and 450 m total climb. Route not fully known to leader. Map: Cotter

through the gorge and return, hopefully with a swim en route. Map: ACT

A relaxed four day
post-Christmas trip on the lovely Genoa. Minimal climbing, lots of swimming and

A circuit through
some classic Budawang country – up past The Castle and through Monolith Valley,
visit Mt Owen before dropping through the deep forest of Angel Creek past
Broken Falls to the swimming holes of Hollands Gorge and the Clyde. Exit past
(maybe visit) Byangee Mtn and the cool of Cathedral Cave. Much off track, but
rarely rough, and home for NY eve. Maps: Corang 1:25,000, CMW

Start
around sunrise and finish around lunch time to avoid the worst of the heat. The
walk will be in the Bushfold Flats area south of Tharwa. Map: Williamsdale

After a
car shuffle we follow the crest of the Brindabella Range northwards across some
high points with extensive views in all directions. Minimal scrub and short
climbs only. All but the last 500 m is above 1300 m altitude so should be much

A Tuesday tromp to
walk off New Year cheer. Back via Smokers Trail and SH1452 to find the Brumby
Yards to the SE. Then a stroll down Blue Gum Creek and return via the usual
Yards site on the return route from Blue Gum Hill. Around 8 km and 250 m total
climb. To fill in the day, we’ll then visit the De Salis cemetery at Tharwa and
William Farrer’s grave. An extra flattish 3 km or so. Map: Cotter Dam

A circuit of the
southern Brindabellas and the Cotter River. From Corin Dam, up Stockyard Spur
to Mt Franklin Road. Wander south, visiting flats and gaps along the ACT–NSW
border including off-track between Leura Gap and Rolling Ground Gap. See
several ACT Sites of Significance along the way. Camp at Cotter Flats. Follow
the Cotter River downstream via Lick Hole Road to Gallipoli Flats, then back to
the car. Around 40 km and 1550 m total climb. Strenuous walking for a fit

Drive via
Cooma and Numeralla. After visiting Tuross Cascades, we follow a track (3.5 km
return) to 40 m Tuross Falls. Depending on the inclination of the party, we may
descend to the bottom and explore a short way along the gorge (rough), and/or

Go
down Sutton Road about 1½ km from its intersection with Pialligo Rd and Yass Rd
to the Kowen Rd. Go down Kowen Rd until the junction where the road to Molonglo
Gorge goes off to the right. There is a car park on the left. We will walk to
the Blue Tiles recreation area on the Molonglo and back via a ridge with views.
