The program for a month usually covers walks from the second
Wednesday of the month to the second Wednesday of the following month.

walk series continues, close to Canberra
with a destination to be decided. Contact the leader before 8pm Tuesday

12–13 April: Namadgi
N.P. – Coronet Peak via
Cotter Gap – M/M-R
Saturday: Orroral Valley
carpark to Cotter
Gap, and Pond Creek to pitch camp. We’ll spend the afternoon
poking around
Cotter Hut. Sunday: We’ll make an early
start to scramble up Coronet Peak and
return to Pond Ck to decamp.
We’ll return to Orroral Valley via
Cotter Gap.
Fuel stoves and woollies will be required. Map: Corin

Saturday 12 April:
Tinderry – M/E
This
walk runs
parallel to, and just east of, the Tinderry Range.
Follow the Round
Flat and East Tinderry fire trails north from the Tinderry Rd
through open bush to an
unnamed peak of 1335 m for lunch then west and south back to the cars
mostly
off track. Climb around 250 m. About 4 hrs actual walking. Map: Tinderry

Tuesday 15 April: Mt
Scabby from Yaouk including source of the Cotter River – M/R,X
From Kennedys Road
via
Rowleys Hut head east steeply up to Mt Scabby. Explore the tops and the
source
of the Cotter
River.
North down the Cotter for 2 km,
then west down to Rowleys Hut and return to the car. Around 10 km and
600 m
total climb. Demanding walking. Route not fully known to leader. Maps: Rendezvous

Griffins Farm – S/E or S-M/M
Access
from Bendeela
Rd
in Kangaroo
Valley.
Griffins Farm on Yarrunga Creek
has long been abandoned and is now in Morton National Park.
It is surrounded by high sandstone cliffs. The basic walk is all on
fire trail,
6 km each way to and from the campsite with 200 m descent Saturday and
ascent
Sunday. Optional side trips without packs to magnificent Mt Moollattoo
(3 km ret +/–350 m off-track) and the farm overlook
and Crankeys Creek (3
km ret +/–150 m partly off-track). Map: Bundanoon

Saturday 19 April: Wild
Cattle Ridge – M/E
A walk
near Captains
Flat in the Tallaganda National Park.
>From Wild
Cattle Flats
Road.
We will follow an open ridge south toward Mt Tumanang. The mountain is
too far
to access this way in a day and we will lunch on an unnamed peak of
1335m then
go west and south to the cars. Vegetation is varied, some interesting
views.
About 5 hrs walking, almost all off-track but not hard. Home via the
purple
eatery. Map: Tinderry 1:25,000.

Friday,
25 April: Black Mt and Aranda Bushland – M/E
Meet at
9.30 am in
the the car park opposite 160 Dryandra St,
O’Connor. This walk traverses the Bruce Ridge
then crosses into the Black Mt Reserve. Traverse the reserve, following
the
track part way up the mountain, then to the Cork Plantation for lunch.
Home via
the Aranda Bushland. All on track, about 4 hrs walking. Map:

Sunday, 27 April: A
ridge with a view – M/E-M
Walk
from the Spring
Creek car park along a series of ridges through open forest to an
unnamed
grassy peak for lunch with spectacular views from Lake George to the Tinderries
then loop back to the cars. Part on and
part off-track, about 4¾ hrs actual walking. I made a mess
of this one last
year and brought the group back before we saw the best views, so do it
again if
you were disappointed then. Map: Captains

Swamp
Aboriginal Art and Thunder Bluff –
M/M,X
Nursery
Swamp
Walking Trail, taped footpad towards saddle, to aboriginal art site.
Then NW up
spur to SH1424 and on to Thunder Bluff. Return via Rendezvous Creek,
downstream
to taped footpad up and down to car at Nursery Swamp
car park. Around 13 km and 500 m total climb. Moderate fitness
required.

(2) 3–4 May: Bargo
Gorge – M/E
Drive
to Bundanoon
YHA on Friday evening, our base for the weekend. On Saturday, walk the
spectacular and beautiful Bargo Gorge from the Mermaid’s Pool
to its junction
with the Nepean
River.
Mostly on track. On Sunday,
probably walk from Meryla Pass along
the cliff line
with magnificent views, a mixture of on and off-track. The YHA is a
renovated
early 20th century home of delightful ambience. Shared meal on Saturday
evening. Maps: Picton and Bundanoon.

Saturday 3 May: Bendora
Dam – Mt Domain crossover – L/R,X (NPA Grade
2/A/D/E/F)
A joint
CBC/NPA
walk. From Bendora Dam up a spur through SH1117, SH1266 and SH1239 to
top the
Tidbinbilla skyline at 1460 m. 500 m S to Mt Domain (1506 m), then via
the
usual spur down to Fishing Gap and so to Fishing Gap car park. Around
12 km and
900 m total climb. Demanding walking for a fit and experienced party.

(9)10–11 May:
Cloudmaker and Ti Willa Plateau
– M/M-R
Leave
Friday night
to camp near Kanangra Walls. Follow the track across Kanangra Tops then
along
the ups and downs of the narrow Gangerang Range to
Mt Cloudmaker and
beyond off-track to Ti Willa Plateau, to camp in 100 Man Cave. Return
via the
same route. Spectacular views in all directions, including the Sydney
skyline from Ti Willa.
After lots of rain in the Blue
Mountains in
late 2007, I’m expecting water in Ti Willa Creek, but if
it’s been dry we’ll do
a walk to the Kowmung down Brumby Ridge and back up Roots ridge. Map:

Saturday 10 May: Black
Range
– M/E
From
the Forbes
Creek track head, follow the trail north through attractive open forest
to South
Black Range trig
point with its
enormous rock for morning tea, then along an open ridge to rejoin the
track for
a while. Swing east then south off-track before returning to the cars.
About 4½
hrs actual walking. Map: Bombay

Sunday 11
May: Sandy
Creek Falls
– S/R
Walk starts
and finishes at top of Meryla Pass near
Moss Vale. We
walk to Rebecca’s View Lookout and descend the cliffs at the
creek to the
south. Thence down to Sandy Creek
which we follow
upstream through rainforest, pass the 30 m waterfall (easy climb
around), and
return to the cars through the heath. I have done this walk in reverse,
a long
time ago, but if I cannot find the safe descent we will stay above the
cliffs
and go to another very scenic lookout. Map: Bundanoon

Tuesday 13 May: Sunny
Corner Trail and SH1215 – M/M,X
The
first edition Cotter Dam 1:25000 map
shows a number of fire trails around Reids Pinch on the Brindabella
Road. Follow Sunny Corner
Trail to the weir over Condor Creek, then climb to SH1215. Join Two Sticks Road
and
follow an old fire trail back to Picadilly Circus. Another old fire
trail
parallels Brindabella
Road
down to the arboretum. A short side trip to Blundell Hill. Around 11 km
and 650
m total climb. Moderate fitness required. Route not fully known to
