magnificent sandstone cliffs running along the top of the escarpment. There are

inclined can take a stroll up Billy Bulloos Canyon (next to the campsite). Map:

We
will be camping at Pinkwood Creek about 1km from where we park the cars off
Pinkwood Creek Road. On day one we will follow Pinkwood Creek through
magnificent rainforest (Pinkwood and Palms) to the Deua River and explore along
the Deua River, indulging in the occasional swim, before returning to camp. On
day two we explore for about 16km the upper reaches of the Deua River near
Bendethera, following a bridle trail established in the 1880s for transporting
horses racing at Racecourse Flat near Bendethera. If time permits we will
explore the Bendethera Caves area. Maps: Nerrigundah & Snowball

Sunday
11 March: Little Horseshoe Bend and Great Horseshoe Bend – S/M
Features
some of the most spectacular views and interesting rock formations along the
Shoalhaven River. Starts near the end of Matodoro Ridge Fire Trail from where we
follow an old trail through light open bush to Monitor Mount, then we do a steep
walk (descend 400m) down the spur to a knife edge ridge with incredible views
that takes us along to Little Horseshoe Bend from where we wade (up to waist
deep) across the Shoalhaven River. We then head down stream along the river bank
to Great Horseshoe Bend, recrossing the river for the 450m climb up the track
over Assay Buttress to the end of the walk at Bullion Hill. Due to a cliff
blocking our way we must cross the Shoalhaven River twice and if the automatic
river level telemeter gauge reading at nearby Hillview (http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDN60144.html)
is higher than 0.650m the walk will be changed. There will be opportunities for
swimming. Numbers may be limited depending on how many people with 4‑wheel
drives (Foresters, etc) participate. Map:

13 March – South East Namadgi National Park Huts – M/M
With
two cars we can walk from Shanahans Mountain down to Shanahans Falls Creek,
across the ridge to Naas Creek, then onto the Naas Valley Fire Trail to visit
Demandering Hut. A kilometre or so further North along the fire trail we’ll
find Horse Gully Hut. Return will be back South along the fire trail, noting the
points of interest on the Namadgi National Park Naas Valley to Horse Gully Hut
brochure (available at http://www.environment.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/13831/naasvalleytohorsegullywalkbrochure.pdf).
If time and energy allow, a 2km round trip detour to Potters Chimney up Back or
Grassy Creek (yes, that’s its correct name), then to the second car at the
Mount Clear camping ground. Around 16km and 350m total climb, with 3.5km of
bush. If only one car is available, it’ll be as per the brochure and a little
longer and a little flatter. Further details at http://www.pcug.org.au/~jevans
