Meet
at the car park on Namatjira Drive just on the Kambah side of Fisher near the
speed limit sign. There are great views along the ridge. No bookings, just turn

16 December: Mt Gingera – M/E
Enjoy
Mount Gingera with the wildflowers. Walk on track from the Mount Ginini car park
to the summit for lunch, then follow the ridge for a time before dropping off
track to Pryors Hut and back to the cars. Given the elevation – Mount Gingera
is 1857m – the walk will probably be comfortable even if the city is warm. The
climb is about 200m. A spectacular view. About four hours actual walking. Map:

16–17
December: Many Rock Ribs – M/MR
Gem
of a Budawangs area. Access from Wog Wog entrance and Corang Cascades. Surprise
campsite, then to Many Rock Ribs with daypacks and cameras. Memorably lovely
small-scale scenery, plus vistas from the hills. Sunday activities negotiable
dependent upon the weather. To swim may be pleasant. No fires or trekking poles.

Tuesday
19 December: Orroral Tor and The Spinnaker – M-L/M-R/X
A
route that can be easily tailored to suit the desires of the party and the
temperature of the day. From Honeysuckle Creek camping ground, we’ll head 3km
south into the open creek lines. Then up to the ridge and round the back of
Orroral Tor to inspect this grand feature up close and personal. North to the
Orroral Valley-Honeysuckle Creek fire trail, which will take us back up the
ridge. NE through the bush to the back of The Spinnaker (aka Honeysuckle Crag).
At maximum, 14km and 700m climb; at minimum, a gentle stroll of a couple of km

a walk in the Mount Ainslie reserve, including a visit to the disused quarry,

25 December: Christmas Day Lunch
CBC
members and their friends are invited to join the traditional picnic (BYO)
lunch, hopefully at Springbank Island, Lake Burley Griffin. Meet at noon at the
lakeside end of Lawson Circuit, Acton Peninsular. There is no need to book but
please contact the leader should you want any further information and do let him
know if you are able to provide a further boat or canoe to be used to ferry

December: Charlottes Pass – S/E, M/M
Some
accommodation has been booked at the self-catering Southern Alps Lodge at
Charlottes Pass. Should you wish to enjoy the wild flowers in the mountains or
the end of the year, for the whole time or just one or two days please contact
the leader for further information as soon as possible so that extra beds can be

December: Gungartin, Jagungal, and Kerries Ridge – M/M/X
A
circuit of that remote northern end of the Main Range, including the intriguing
cascades of Valentine Falls, and the lonely peaks of Jagungal and Gungartin.
Much will be off track, but it is mostly open rolling country with delightful
campsites, a couple of old huts, alpine flowers and big views. Maps:

Hopping
Joes Creek – Genoa River – Black Jack Gully – Genoa River – Hopping Joes
Creek. A pleasant river walk. No compulsory swims, but wet feet. Various

December - 1 January: Kowmung River – M/M-R/W
Uni
Rover Trail – Despond Ridge – Kowmung River – Christys Creek –
Spinebender Ridge – Uni Rover Trail. A chance to do a long section (about
20km) of the Kowmung. Lots of river crossings. There is one compulsory swim in
Christys Creek and we may swim around some obstacles in the Kowmung. If the Park
is closed due to flood, fire or any other hazard, we’ll try to find another

December - 3 January: Walls of Jerusalem, Tasmania NP, M/M-R
A
chance to spend New Year’s Eve in one of Tasmania’s lovely alpine areas. The
trip will be a circuit, approaching from the south west and leaving via the main
route. Two days with full packs to get there followed by two relaxing days
exploring the main walls area with day packs. Expect all weather conditions from
snow to searing heat. Plenty of tarns to swim in for those used to southern
water temperatures. Fuel stove only area, no fires. Park fees apply. Map:

December - 1 January: Orroral Ridge and Booroomba – S/E
Late
afternoon start. Escape the noisy New Year parties with a pleasant overnight
stay just 1km from the cars near Honeysuckle Ck. Watch the sunset from a high
outcrop then do a short walk in the fullish moonlight. Return to the cars after
breakfast on New Years morning then do a short drive and walk up Mt Booroomba.
Back home by lunchtime. Don’t be deterred if you don’t have your own tent or

2 January: The Ridge of Stone – S/E
I
so enjoyed this little wander led by Jeff Bennetts last year that I’ll take my
overseas visitors this year. Come and join us and clear the head of New Year
revelry. Drive to the top of the ridge and explore north and south. Tower Rocks,
Legoland, Trojan Wall, Sentinel Rocks, The Belfry and The Cloisters. Excellent
granite. Around 6km and a little easy scrambling. With an early start to beat

evening, 4 January: Kowen Forest – S/E
Go
down Sutton Road about 1½ km from its intersection with Pialligo Road and Yass
Road to the Kowen Road. Go down Kowen Road until the junction where the road to
Molonglo Gorge goes off to the right. Park in the car park on the left. We will
head through the forest to the Blue Tiles recreation area. Start time 6:30pm. No

January: Clyde Gorge from Little Forest Plateau – M/R
This
is a 3-day circuit with magnificent Budawang scenery, a touch of adventure and
time to enjoy the pools in the Clyde River. The tree cover in the gorge provides
pleasant relief from the sun for much of the way. We will descend into the gorge
via Wombat Ridge and Landslide Canyon, follow the river upstream from Pigeon
House Creek (first camp) to Claydons Creek (second camp) and climb out via a
tributary of Claydons Creek and Jailhouse Pass. Maps:
