Cross-over – M/R
Nursery Creek car park,
top end Nursery Swamp, Rendezvous Creek,
Boboyan Road near Gudgenby River. This
is usually a very popular trip with

Sunday 15 August: Black Mountain and Aranda
Bushland – M/E
Meet at 9.30 in the
car park opposite 160 Dryandra St, O’Connor.
This walk traverses the Bruce Ridge then
crosses into the Black Mt Reserve. Traverse
the reserve, following the track part
way up the mountain, then along the
lake to Yarramundi Peninsula for lunch.
Home via the cork plantation and the
Aranda Bushland. All on track, about 5

Tuesday 17 August: Mt Palerang – M/M,X
Mt Palerang seems to
be the current place to go (Jeff
B last month and Stan M next month),
so the Tuesday walkers may as well
go there too. Ascend from the SW
and descend to the N. Good views.

bushwalking bonanza
Drive down
Friday night to the Bundanoon YHA, where
we stay the weekend. Mt Carrialoo (to
be led by Barry K on Saturday)
is brilliant and if you like spectacular
views and a bit of a challenge,
you will love it. On Sunday, we
start at the Fitzroy Falls Visitors’ Centre
and follow the west rim track then
head off via an old ruin and a
tree fern forest, to the cliff line
across the Yarrunga creek valley from
Carrialoo. On Saturday night, the Bundanoon
Pub for dinner. The YHA is an early
20th century structure of delightful ambience.

The view from Boboyan Trig
Saturday 21 August: Old Boboyan Road to
Boboyan Trig – M/M/X
Start at locked gate
at ref 799300 (approx) and thence walk
the Old Boboyan Road for 8–9 kms
then head north-east into the bush to
Boboyan Trig. Return to cars via Yerrabi
Track. Great views across Gudgenby from
Boboyan Trig. Car shuffle will be required.
Grade is ‘X’ as leader has not
walked the section on Old Boboyan Road
for some years but has walked the
rest of planned trip. Participants will
need to lodge a pre-poll vote in
the federal election. Map: Yaouk 1:25,000.

Saturday afternoon 21 August: ‘Show Us Your
Limits’ Talk and Walk – Border Markers on the N Urban Fringe – Mulligans Flat
Nature Reserve – S/E
Following the very successful
second Talk and Walk at Goorooyarroo,
a third and final Talk and Walk
will be conducted. Join Dr Peter Dowling
from the National Trust (ACT) and me
for a wander in the Mulligans Flat
Nature Reserve to the ACT border. Not
only is the walk to the border
but we will be covering several millennia
of human history in the area. All
welcome. CBC members – one CBC member
is required for every 6 members of
the public participating, so join me in
providing general shepherding and witty repartee.
Or just sign on for the walk. Around
3 hours walking. Meet at 1 pm at
the entrance to the northern section of
Mulligans Flat Nature Reserve on Mulligans

Saturday 21 August: Mt Sunrise and the
Plains of Heaven – M/M
A snowshoe circuit from
Smiggins Holes taking in some superb and
little tracked country to the north of
Dainer’s Gap. Maps: Perisher Valley, Geehi
Dam 1:25,000. Leader: Terence U. Bookings
required by Monday 16 August. Transport: ~$150
per car plus park entry fees. Limit: 6.
Sunday 22 August: Conglomerate castles – M/M
A walk from Wog Wog
over, under and around some conglomerate
outcrops in the western Budawangs. Features
include Tinderry Lookout, The Chute, Goodsell
Creek and The Refrigerator. Partly on
track but there will be some scrub
and easy scrambles around the rocks.

Tuesday 24 August: Snowshoe The Rams Head
Range via Kosi and Etheridge – M–L/M
We’ll take the Thredbo
chairlift to the Eagles Nest, then proceed
to Etheridge and Mt Kosciuszko. Return
to chairlift via Swampy Plain River, Cootapatamba
Hut and The Rams Head. A 6 am start from Kambah.
Around 20 kms. Maps: Mount Kosciuszko &
Thredbo 1:50,000 or Perisher Valley &
Chimneys Ridge 1:25,000. Leader: Karen C.
Transport: $150 per car, Park entry $27 per car,
Chairlift $32 per person, Snowshoes & poles
$25–$35 per person. We’ll stop at Jindabyne

Saturday 28 August: Wild Cattle Ridge – M/E
A walk near Captains
Flat in the Tallaganda National Park.
From Wild Cattle Flat Road, we will
follow an open ridge south toward Mt
Tumanang. The mountain is too far to
access this way in a day and we
will lunch on an unnamed peak of
1335 m then go on to the cars.
Varied vegetation, some interesting views. About
5 hours walking, almost all off track
but not hard. Home via the purple

Saturday 28 August: Caving at Wee Jasper
With guidance from Bill
W who knows these caves and has
been in them many times, a look
into a couple of the caves. No
ropes required, but helmet and light,
and clothes which will get very dirty.

Sunday 29 August: Uriarra former pine forest
– M/M
About half on fire
trails and half through burnt out pine
forest with the possibility of fallen
timber to negotiate. Climb up Uriarra
Hill, Mt Blundell and Ganges Peak.

Bonnum Pic
Tuesday 31 August: Bonnum Pic – M/M,X
This narrow neck with
160r sides is in Nattai National Park,
overlooking the Wollondilly River. After seeing
it on Google Earth, we have to
go. A long drive W of Mittagong.
Around 13 km and 300 m climb. Map: Hilltop

Sassafras Plateau
4–5 September: Upper Endrick – S–M/E (with
harder optional side trips)
This pack walk is
11 km each way on flattish fire trails
from near Nerriga to a lovely campsite
near Endrick River, passing below the
impressive cliffs of the Sassafras Plateau
in the Budawangs. Relax around the campsite,
or on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning
do optional side trips with day packs
on or off track depending on the
interests of the party, perhaps to Sallee
Creek, The Vines (both easy), Battleship
Rock (rough) and the Aboriginal Bora Ground
(longish, great views to Pigeon House),
some with co-leader Jeff B. Suitable for
people who want an easy pack walk
as well as those wanting more on
the side trips. Map: Endrick 1:25,000 or

km return, ~$100 per car, ~$25–$40 per

Saturday 4 September: Worn Boot Bash #9 –
L/R
This walk is an extension to a little
border-marker hunting by a well-known party. Mt Coree to Hall along (more or
less) Percy Sheaffe’s survey line. Approx. 33 km + a few hills and a bridge
over the river. Map: ACT 1:100,000. Leaders: Jenny &

Tunnel on Boxvale Track
Saturday 4 September: Nattai Gorge/Boxvale
Tramway – M/M
Walk through light forest
then traverse the spectacular and beautiful
Nattai Gorge near Mittagong. Lunch at
Boxvale Creek then back to the cars
along the historic tramway alignment. All
on track but a steep climb out
of the gorge. About 4 ½ hours actual
walking. Map: Mittagong 1:25,000. Leader: Stan

Brandy Flat Hut
Sunday 5 September: Booths Hill – M/R
14 km return and a
climb of 700 m. First 5 km are
on the Brandy Flat Walking Track, then
we will go off track to climb the
very steep Booths Hill, 1584 m. Will visit
the delightful Brandy Flat Hut built in
the 1980s for recreation use but in
the style of the older cattlemen’s huts.
A very good level of fitness required.
